A 2 nm platinum film was used as a substrate for the deposition of an iron catalyst bed. The TEM grid was placed in a diamond crucible for plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition for the growth of carbon nanofibers. The iron particles can be seen "riding" the growing fibers.
